The craft show season, at least for Pear Tree Jewelry, has now been completed. Canopy, tables and displays have been put to bed for awhile, as the winter brings a time of rest and rejuvenation as we enter the season of hibernating with a good book and cup of cocoa. (Don't forget the marshmallows!)
With the economy still bouncing around, I went into this season with the attitude that we'd just have to see how it went. Thankfully, sales were good this year, and left me feeling encouraged on two fronts. I have been striving to improve my designs and make sure that a range of styles and price points have been covered. I have also added a bit more sophistication to the table with velveteen neck forms to display my gemstone and sterling silver pendants and wire crochet necklace sets. I also added lamps this year, which gave my booth a squared away look, and really made my items pop, even in environments where there seemed to be sufficient lighting. Someone suggested "Reveal" incandescent bulbs, and for this purpose, they made a world of difference.
The other reason that I feel encouraged about this year, is that people seemed to be a little more comfortable with purchasing. I believe that although we are still in an economic slump, that for some, this must be turning around at least somewhat. I would like to take this as a sign that things are indeed on the upswing. At least I hope so.
I am already starting to think about next year, and have signed up for one show already. The decision has also been made to try to work smarter instead of harder. This includes skipping one show that is close to home, because despite the convenience, it seems that whatever date this particular outdoor weekend is planned for, that date almost guarantees rain or at least drizzle and enough breeze to cause mayhem. I am going to keep an eye out for more indoor events, and take care regarding the dates for any outdoor ones. Spring and fall are just so darned unpredictable with regard to weather~!
For now, time to rest a bit over the Holidays, before jumping back into design work for the next year's events!
This wire wrapped pendant is Crazy Lace Agate wire wrapped on copper and tumbled. It is not yet in my Etsy shop, but if it should strike your fancy, just email me at peartreejewelry@aol.com !
Wishing all a wonderful Holiday season, whichever ones you celebrate, and hoping that everyone will enjoy the New Year in the best of heath!
